    The Lost Battalion

This is about the 308th Battalion of the 77 INF Division during the Argonne Offensive in 1918. My paternal grandfather was an ammo bearer for a "Chauchat Gun" in another battalion of that division. He was wounded by artillery and evacuated during that attack. This movie means a bunch to me as I loved that old man and it gives me better perspective to what he endured. He only spoke of that time once to me, after he found out I'd enlisted in the Army in 1970. I donated his uniform to the Oregon Military Museum as I thought they could better insure it's survival.

And you may or may not like Rick Schroder but this is his best performance and a credit to Charles W. Whittlesey.

Yes, one of my favorites. I've been well aware of their exploits since I was very young.

Great movie! At least they got most of the weapons right.

General Pershing does seem to have often been quite lost; and after the war a goodly number of incriminating documents were apparently "lost" from the US archives at his instigation.
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.
