Barrels Made by Winchester

Last week I saw an Inland with a replacement barrel marked with a W about 4.5 inches from the muzzle and a P about 5.75 inches from the muzzle.

On the flat of the barrel, there was a crossed cannon, an upside down M and a flaming bomb.

Is this a barrel made by Winchester?

Sounds like it.

I wish I had taken a photo of the barrel. I have never seen that kind of artwork on the flat of a Winchester barrel and I am used to seeing the PW proof rather than just the P.

Is this a usual production barrel, some kind of post war contract or a barrel intended for replacement stock or manufacturers other than Winchester??

You usually find the hieroglyhs on Inland barrels, but Winchesters are known for having them too.

There is always something new to learn. I don't think I even used to notice this kind of detail. Now I seem to spend large amounts of time looking at minute detail under magnifying glasses and even more time trying to find explanations to "why it is that way". I think this condition was caused by filling out Carbine Club data sheets.
