K98 great shooter
Well i finally got a real nice day to shoot one of my winter purchases a BCD 43 K98 > I handloaded .323dia HORNADY 170gr roundnose stoked with 47.5 IMR4064 FEDERAL PRIMERS AND BRASS and what a pleasant suprise It shot consistant 2 1/2 inch 5 shot groups at 100yds off the bench. Gotta love those MAUSERS eh! Next in line is a K98 J.P. SAUER & SON 42 That was another winter purchase.I hope it does as well with that same 170gr load. I may take out the BCD and try to get a whitetail next season. I've taken whitetails with the swedish mausers and they drop where they stand using 140gr handloads

Nice! I've got a 1939 Mauser Oberndorf am Neckar (maker code 42) w/markings intact. I bought it a couple months ago, and can't wait for a nice day to shoot it!

They do shoot great. My RC byf '43 shoots 2" groups at 100yds all day with milsurp ammo. Can't wait to try some of my hand loads though. These rifles are very consistent it seems .

Like many service rifles, their accuracy is limited by the crude sights. They never changed the style of the foresight blade from the very first M1871 black powder rifles through to the very last FN-Israeli K98ks. I have both, and my M1871 is wearing an extra-tall K98k blade to get it zeroed at 100 meters! Get a scope on your rifle, and those groups may shrink even more!
