No4 Presentation Chest ( Transit Box )

Some may remember that I was snooping around for transit chest plans and so one a little while back. Anyway, I got hold of what I needed thanks to some generous help and sent it all off to my dad with a request to make me one out of pine.
Fast forward a couple of months and he comes from interstate with the box mostly completed. When I first saw it I figured that silky oak is not pine and it isn't going to be a repro transit chest now, rather a presentation chest with an oiled and waxed exterior with brass trims..
We are in the process of trimming the inside to make the rifle fit and a few other things so it isn't finished yet but hopefully tomorrow I will get some leather for handles and the lid straps to finish it off. As I don't have a scope can and won;t be getting one in the near future I will get my dad to knock up a box that will slot in to put the scope and mount in ( when I get a drill press to be able to mount the pads ) which will be in keeping with the overall look.
Unfortunately there is a slight bow in the side due to using wood that was greener than expected. I am not complaining though !

Thanks Paul !............he'll be locked away until he finishes this up for me .. then I might let him have a life to himself :)
When he retired, dad decided to take up woodworking and started cabinet making. This turned out to be good as he has all sorts of stuff to make these things but is in northern NSW ( about 2 days drive ) so my commisssionings are a little sparse :)
When it's done I will take some better pics. I am pretty happy with it I must say !
