Need some help on this one. I have a 2.5 power Canadian marked Lyman sniper scope that needs the post replaced plus general servicing. Anyone know a very reliable source that does this work. I've checked Parsons site and he does not do postrectiles however I will check with him.
Also need Griffin and Howe bracket for this. would take one complete or parts.

I've had excellent luck with Iron Sight in Oklahoma. They have about a 9 month-1 year back log, bu their work is spot on. Might be worth reaching out to them to see if they can tackle your Lyman. In the past, it has been tough to get ahold of someone on the home. I've had better luck emailing them.

We had/have a couple at work, one with a what looked like a bog standard No32 post and crosswire grat pattern. This one has been through the British workshop system as it's phosphated while the other has the standard Lyman grat flat-top post.
You could ask someone locally to replace the missing or whatever it is you've got grat with the standard No32 type. If you're just making up a good repop (from the request for a bracket....) then the grat pattern probably wouldn't matter too much
I don't understand the Parsons connection. He's helped me in the past in a couple of ways. What do you mean - 'I've checked Parsons site and he does not do postrectiles however I will check with him' You say you've already checked!
Peter.....I've got the rifle and lower bracket.....have had for some time. I don't have the Griffin & Howe upper bracket and would like to pick up an original even if it's incomplete. Not aware of an reproduction out there. The commerical one is not even close to the military. As far as the scope goes......it's original with the exception of the rectile which has been replaced with a cross hair. I would like to put back to original and get the scope cleaned at the same time.Ii've send out a few emails however no response at this time. Parsons does repair "Lymans" however will do a post rectile. I've also send them an email. I let folks know how this goes in somebody else is in this situation. Ron
According to Clive Law’s ‘Without Warning’ Lyman utilised No 12 sewing needles to make the graticule post for No 32 TP Lyman Alaskan. I have a No 12 sewing needle here and at its thickest diameter its 0.0175 ” compared to say a No 32/Aldis graticule post being 0.006 ” diameter. So appears apparent Lyman probably turned down these needles in a watchmakers lathe to the distinct tapered flat top post. You would need to know the dimensions of graticule post from an original scope or Lyman’s specifications. Alternatively trial and error re-profiling a No 12 needle to achieve desired results. Might go through a few needles experimenting and trial fitting but I'm sure it's achievable with some time and patience. Having an original scope on hand with correct reticle would of course help.
Try Warren on this forum, as I’m sure he told me he has fitted new correct type grat posts to the No 32 TP Lyman Alaskan or has one to do.
Whilst on subject Canadian scopes looks to me from some of the REL No 32 MK IV/C no 67 scopes and 5 x experimental scopes examined that the No 12 or close size number sewing needle went straight in graticule block as is.
I queried this No12 sewing needle enigma too. I also took advice from a needle manufacturer who couldn't make head nor tail of it either. In that respect Valley sniper is correct about the needle being turned down. So why on earth they'd turn down a needle when there was already a grat pattern in use remains a mystery. It would appear that the UK trials TP scope came with the UK standard that everyone was used to............ a .006" grat post and .0008" crosswire. It seems a shame that the remainder of the telescope wasn't up to the job. But the answer is apparent. Warren can do the grat and Xwire job
No12 needlw EH! I did review the information that's in Laws book. I have access to a TP scope so I can at least see the correct profile. Do you have a source for No12 needles....would be a good start. Thanks. Ron
To be honest RGG, a No12 needle will look like a tree trunk hanging from your washing line! Unless you can turn one down then it's a useless starting point. You'd be better off starting with a much finer needle
How do you know the reticle isn't original? Is it a real TP or just a remarked Alaskan?Quote:

Yes I have been asking those who have them for over 10 years now.
I've got a commerical 2.5 Lyman "All Weather" with a "post and wire". I have access to a Lyman TP which belongs to a serious Enfield collector friend. I'll do a visual comparison of the two to see if there is a difference. Then I'll attempt to determine the OD dimension to different guage standard wire. I did a quick internet search and see various shapes and diameters needles are available. Got to start somewhere......would be great if there was a drawing available. Ron.
