Longbranch sniper 30LXXXX

Did Longbranch ever have a sniper in the 30LXXXX range? 41-42ish. I purused the Knowledge Library and a few other areas and don't see if it was a possibility from what I have read thus far.

From what I've read, no. The first batch of trial snipers was in mid to late '43, in the 50L range.

I have a rifle not finished, from Longbranch which has lots of sniper features... I think, no expert. It has a whole trigger group marked with small S's, then some distinct Sniper type T's beside a small ' C' with inserted Arrow, this is continued over the whole grouping, and on to the barrel. It's also marked with both a distinctive S and further up the barrel a T, all on the underside. The bolt has the hole drilled in it, and the early button cocking piece is fitted, which is also LB marked, and the mag fits description too. It's marked as a No4 MK1* 1943 # 30L2325, there's also a T and ? stamped in the wrist but it's been almost buffed out, only visible with a Loop.
Clive Law's book feature's a 1943 31Lxxxx, and now a sniper bracket has appeared on ebay claimed to be genuine, and numbered 30L6572, look's repro to me, but I hope to be corrected. I've seen another full early one around, but I have no information on it. I understood from other information I'd gleaned over time, that some earlier numbers were used for conversion and or more set aside, but all were marked No4 Mk1* 1943 and not earlier, 30L's being made in early 1943. Interested in answer also.

I agree with you Harlon about that bracket on that auction site. It's about as straight as a corkscrew. Maybe someone ought to put the auction number up so as to identify it!

The mount shown on Eslime is one of the second batch from SARCO...distinctive mold mark. It might have come through the Belgian connection.
Also, there were Long Branch (T) rifles scoped up in the 35L range as well as many other series but only in very small numbers. They were done up for special purposes and a lot later than most realize.

I noted the seller's explanation for the condition of the bracket earlier: "The mount has been soak in acetone to remove all the rust which covered the mount when it was found with other part in a box of old car parts in a flooded damp garage but the problem with this treatment is it has removed 90% of the oiled blue finish other than needing refinishing the mount has no damage or cracks."

Went to the same school of flowery language as the Energy chiefs on the radio this morning, trying to evade difficult questions about the hike in gas and electricity prices.
(Sorry if you're outside the UK and don't understand this but we've just had outrageous gas and electricity price rises)

Having a bit more than a elementary understanding of metallurgy, how about I soak a bit or rusty iron in acetone and we have a pool on how long it takes for the acetone to remove the rust.
I'm in for a dollar at no results for at least 5 years.....anyone else in ?? :-)##
Maybe he mistook phosphoric acid for acetone or just could not spell
