Is this for real? These two pictures are of the same Winchester stock for sale on a auction site. The current bidding is up to $414. I have trouble believing this a original acceptance stamp on a type 4 Winchester. The stamp looks too large but even more suspicious is the heavy sanding in evidence on the stock. Look at the Butt Plate overlap and the cross grain sanding on the same side as the stamp.
Something is very suspicious or am I just too skeptical.
The Winchester cartouche on its later stock was about 1/2 an inch tall. This one appears to be an Inland or the rarely seen Quality Hardware one used early on. With all of the heavy sanding, I can about bet what happened to the original cartouche. It's also a shame that people will bid on things like this. With all of the maroons as Bugs Bunny called them, we will rarely see a bargain or soon enough an authentic item.

When the frenzy was over it sold for $430.59. I guess the Inland butt plate made the difference. This is the goofiest thing I've watched since I saw a obvious counterfeit M1911A1 "Small G" barrel go for $400. Except for the acceptance stamp, Inland butt plate and the barrel band spring all the pictures are in poor light. One picture has a hand guard in it but only shows the upper right rear quarter, does not say if it's included.
The tag line for this auction was "M1 Carbine Winchester Stock Cross Cannon Cartouche WW2" and the only description the seller furnished was "Great Condition".

Milling inside is more aggressive than you normally see inside any WRA stock.
Wonder how long the barrel channel is?
