Thanks and good luck! Aim true, shoot straight.
My word a flying "Stuart"
Good luck for the W/end shoot we have a 1000 yd tomorrow.
Canned the 1000yd it was raining that much the ducks had aqua-lungs on and the fish were wearing raincoats........
Is there a Garand somewhere in the photo?
One of the guys standing just to the left of the suspended Stuart has one on his shoulder...slung...
The AFV being hoisted down to the lighter is an M1 or early M2 light tank, definitely not a later M2A5 or M3 light tank. The later models featured a trailing idler wheel that was larger and pressed the track to the ground. The tank in this image has the idler wheel of the earlier configurations.
There is a well known image of an M2A4 (37mm gun) in use by Marines on Guadalcanal, but the tank in this image doesn't appear to have the midline located, rather high 37mm gun turret.
U.S.S. Alchiba (APA-6) unloaded troops and material off Guadalcanal August 7-9 1942, so the cut line information may be correct. However, the Marines were armed with the rifle M1903 at that date, so if a rifle M1 is identified in this image when and where was it taken?
No claim of M1
