Peter I know the PIAT (Projector Infantry Anti Tank) has to have its firing pin/piston manually cocked prior to firing. Does the recoil from the fired round cock the firing pin/piston for the next shot or does it have to be manually cocked again?
Just something more to lose sleep over. I have one but fortunately for the neighbors no live ammunition for it. It does throw the cat's toys some distance. No, the cat is smarter than that.

Re-cocking is quite a trial. It required a knack and if you were short it could be all but impossible. In the field at least, it required you to be prone and the pull and twist to cock it looked like a bout of all in wrestling. The original design was that the weapon would re-cock it's self by the recoil, but if the bomb wasn't tightly seated it would misfire and require hand re-cocking. Sometimes it wouldn't re-cock just to be a pig... A friend of mine carried on all through Italy and discarded it just before the Senio river crossing(under fire). He also won an MM for taking out a shooter that was harassing his wounded men. He hated the PIAT...

Brian is right. Firing re-cocks the weapon and this (supposedly) absorbs some of the energy. Interestingly we had some white 'drill' bombs at work. So said, ther were armed with a blank that would project the drill round 25 or so yards. The drill round was fired off a special adaptor plate thinggy.
