L/E No4 mk3

Hi all,
I have a long boring question im hoping someone can answer.

I have a L/E No4 mk3, its a bit of a jigsaw, 1943 Savage action, 1943 BSA 5 groove "T" barrel. fitted with Parker Hale scope mounting blocks ( Envoy type), it shoots perfectly but now ive mounted a Pecar scope the sight is off set to the left about 0.060" when I try to bore sight it, it takes up most of the windage adjustment, How much will this offset affect sighting in, Do I need to machine the blocks to bring it in centre,

OOOOps typo its a Mk1

Best you fit the telescope pads correctly and aligned with the bore. That's because the further outside of the centre line of the optical axis of the telescope bore you look through, the greater the optical aberration or distortion you encounter when looking at the image.

To illuistrate what I mean, look through your spectacles normally............ Now look through them, looking through the outer edges. See the distortion?

It seems ive mislead you, the mount blocks I have are NOT Envoy but Enforcer,( I was lead to believe both rifles used the same mounting system it appears im wrong) rear replaces the ladder sight and the front is bolted to the top of the receiver, now the Enforcer is a No4 with a 7.62 barrel, said dovetails and I believe RAH3 rings, So does the Enforcers scope sit 0.060" to left as mine does or do I have a problem.

I think you answered your own question in post 1, but I,m guessing when you mention the rear base, is this one of the PH ones that flips up ? I,ve used them in the past with downloads and sub Calibre kits etc, the rear base always seemed to be off by a mile, sometimes (depending on what type of scope rings) could be adjusted by turning the rings around.

As its 0.060" it won't take much to shim it and if the whole scope is offset by 0.060" I,d leave it as it is.

You may well be right B/D. Im taking it to the range today and see how she prints. Im not sure about shimming, they tend to move, however with the dovetails being 19mm I have room to machine them to centre then change to smaller rail clamps if needed. May be im reading too much into what the bore sighting was tell me, best let the rifle speak for itself. ill post the results later.

Well I gave it a try at what should have been near enough bore sighted, and it printed 7" right @ 25mts with no windage left on the scope, Having read about action flex and the left hand twist I re centred the scope with the mirror trick, The next shot 3/8" left of centre, 1.5 moa, gave the scope 6 clicks and fired 3 more shots they cloverlefted on centre about 1.5" high. So what have I learned,, you cant bore sight a No4 and the 0.060 offset is normal and always trust Alf Parker he knew a lot more than me.
There you have it my collection of bits is shooting well, its needs tickling at 300 just to finish it off but my worries are over, no need to machine or shim or throw the scope away. However I am going to make a small modification, a forehead tattoo saying " Trust your Enfield" lol ,,, thank you all for trying to help, we got there in the end..... Tom G
