Clue No. 1
Pat,
How's about an ENFIELD 3 BAND MUSKET in 451?
Thanks for the fast reply.
But Enfield? With 7 grooves and an octagonal barrel?
Think again!
Colt Model 1851 Navy?
Pat,
Why not ??? I have seen such a beast with 7 spins made by Enfield in 451, its in the Leeds Museum. Not sure how big the barn door was when they trilled it though lol
If not Enfield it has to be a Whitworth Classic
Still no cigars!
Keep trying guys, another clue tomorrow.
Using Google-Fu I come up with a Model 1810/35 Jager rifle?
Warpig is getting close! No cigar, but maybe a cigarette.
Another photo may be helpful:
Front sling swivel
OK, time for some hard facts, or rather, dimensions:
Bore diameter 0.605". Rounded grooves, with groove depth a whopping 0.025" - see photo of slug.
Barrel length: a trifle over 70 cm. Or, as the makers would have said, "28 Zoll".
Believe me, that really narrows it down.
C'mon Warpig, get digging!
More tomorrow.
Hmmm? The last two clues seem to have flopped.
OK, now look at this - a very distinctive feature.
