Boyds NoIMKIII stocks
Well I was on another thread over in Aussie and this chap has purchased a Boyds Laminated sporter stock for his sporterised NoIMKII Lithgow SMLE. He purchased it at a shop in Australia and guess what. It dosen't fit. Well Boyds do say some inlet work may be needed but this takes the cake.
Here is the post.https://www.milsurps.com/images/impo...314d3109-1.jpg

"Getting that gap area right is an important part of bedding the SMLE. I guess the recoil draws are non existent?"
As someone who knows less than nothing about bedding these actions, can you please elaborate? Does this clearance of proper gap (or lack of) here contribute to accuracy??
And you have to love boyd's response - I can't help but think the person who replied has NFI what I'm talking about?? Confused
My email: The subject was titled Enfield no1mk3 stock
Hi there,
I bought a 2 piece laminate set for my SMLE ( Lithgow No1 Mk3) rifle, from a gun shop in Australia.
Whilst the in letting for the action, barrel, and magazine well was reasonably close, the forend is too short at the trigger end.

I fully expected minor relieving would be required for a nice flush fit, there is nothing that can be done to allow a proper wood to metal finish here. The stock is simply too short by about 1/8".
I have also checked this against numerous Australian and English manufactured SMLEs made between 1914 to 1953, and they are all the same, so the rifle in question is not unique.
Can you please advise whether other users have reported this issue, or if mine may have been packaged incorrectly, or why I might have this issue?
Thanks very much, and I look forward to your reply.
Their response:
Lee,
The best thing to do is contact SMLE with the serial number on the barrel and find out the exact Model/Action. Then go back to the gun shop you purchased the stock from. 1/8" off usually indicates variation or a difference in Short Action to Long Action. Again, the best thing to do is contact SMLE and go back to the gun shop with the information and see what stock was purchased.
Sincerely,
Amadna

I guess I better contact "SMLE" and see if mine is a long action or a short action! lol Face palm
Just make you chuckle.

Well with a name like that...Amadna, certainly not one of my Irish descendants there then:lol:
Sympathise with you, very frustrating, made worse by the holidays coming up as well.

Yes and while your at it do not forget to contact the SMLE shop about the in-letting you may wish to also get a phone that can bridge the time continuum back to the 1940's I think they are on e bay for $4.99 at the moment, their response has to go down into the Ludicrous basket :rofl::lol:
