Looks like something went through his M1 helmet...lucky man. That was all he got.

I wonder if his injury is a burst right ear drum which I would imagine is quite common on the battle field. What would be battlefield first aid for a burst ear drum? Would it be to apply a dressing over the affected ear?

I'm thinking scalp injury as his helmet was penetrated and he has blood down his forehead. I suffered burst eardrum and the blood is minor, stayed inside the ear. Only the medic could see it. There was nothing to be done for it.

I didn't see the damage to the helmet so you could be right, Jim.

That must've been luck! Wow!!!
