Free France and its Free French Forces (French: France Libre and Forces françaises libres) were the government-in-exile led by Charles de Gaulle during the Second World War and its military forces that continued to fight against the Axis powers as one of the Allies after the fall of France. It was set up in London in June 1940 and also organised and supported the Resistance in occupied France.

During the course of the war we gave them more than 300,000 M1 rifles. When we asked for them back, the French government said they had been destroyed.

Were they destroyed or did they mysteriously reappear at a later date?

Looks like he actually has two cartridge belts on, one above the other. You see them both at rear but only the high one in front. They aren't UK pouches, and the bayonet doesn't look Springfield, but has a UK frog for 1907 on it. I'd love to see the markings on his rifle.
