Anyone here know the story or history of this stuff? I know its not valuable but I bought a couple cans a few years ago and OHHHH MYYYY this stuff smells potent. Smells like fresh pavement with used motor oil mixed in haha. I use it on my milsurp rifles and till seems to be working ok. Just cant find any info online at all about it. I mean STRONG smelling stuff.
Just looking at the tin and its markings, I'll hazard a guess that it is WWII vintage.
What crosses my mind is whether or not it is really useable after ~ 75 years.
Mac, I know exactly what that is. My Dad kept a bunch of cans in our garage. That my friend is SEABEE Oil.. LOL That stuff was used all the way up to the end of Korean War I dug in my Dads old manuals and you will find it referenced in section 4 Weapons, of The US Navy Advanced Base Equipment Catalog used on such weapons as the .30 Browning 1919A4, 1903 Springfield, 80MM Morter, M1 Carbine, 1911, BAR, Thomson, yada-yada-yada... I suppose since it's a Navy Oil those Fella's in the Canoe Club used it as well.Quote:

As a matter of fact, as a kid (12 to 14 years), the guys in MCB-17 used to have me clean their M16A1's and M60's when they would come back from quals or war games and they didn't use that stuff anymore.
