Something just doesn't look quite right with this rifle, am I missing something, or being overly cautious?

The cartouche doesn't look right from the picture. Why they didn't give a close up might be a reason why. Let the experts chime in on it.
The stock color doesn't look right either.
The "c" in "EMcF" looks too tall to me. The top of the ''c" appers to be above the center horizontal line of the "F".
The top of the "c" on my 3-43 McFarland is below the center horizontal line of the "F".
I'd want an actual muzzle wear/throat erosion measurement first. That could be an 8mm cartridge handing out the muzzle. A $1000+ gun ought to have those readings provided automatically.
Stock shelf looks a little short at the tang. Maybe the stock has been subjected to extensive sanding there, or not. Stock has a nice color & glow to it.
Trust, but verify.
The cartouche- EMcF does not look right, I the stock looks right but re-finished, mine is all beat up with cartridge dings, several knife cuts and hairline cracks, but the barrel letters and date stamped in normal manner. I have seen 1942 barrels, stamped in a similar manner, I guess the guy on 3 shift was left handed.
The stock has been majorly sanded and restamped.
Look at all the overhang on the receiver.
None of his other pictures show enough detail to read the numbers either.

It looks not right to me, New wood old marks I dont think its ever had a case of the M1 uglys as all service rifles seem to get in time and use.And yes I'v seen the 8mm trick at a gun show:thdown:
My thoughts on it

I agree, the stock has been sanded and restamped.
