Came across an 1869/71 in beautiful shape. It's still a rim fire. Would really like to shoot it.

Would you convert it to center fire or leave it alone. Probably worth more the way it is but can't shoot it that way. Which way should I go?

Rimfire ammunition should be available if you trawl the for sale in Europe. Might be expensive too. Collectors might also know.

Might be possible to make rimfire ammunition too, Milsurps and Google are your friends.

If you can find a centerfire bolt you can just swap them over. Maybe an Italian bolt? I used 348 Winchester brass cut at the shoulder to make a black powder blank with a poured wax cap...and used a .44 SWC bullet just tossed in ahead of it. It shot to POA from standing at 200 yds... I'm sure you can find a case to use that won't be so collectable though.

We use 8mm Lebel, and it can be trimmed and fire-formed to work extremely well.
We also manufacture the firing pin carrier. The firing pin should be a RCBS #5 decapping pin. The process is simple.
And if you did find rimfire ammo, which I highly doubt other than an odd box, it would be in the collector class and expensive.

Original rimfire would never go off either I think, if that was what was meant earlier.

I have a limited amount of rim fire from Fiocci, and it does fire. Every time.
What am I not understanding? Probably something simple because I've had OGS since I passed 75.

Didn't know where to find current issue ammo, yes it would fire.

Jim, it's not a new issue. Old schtuff but still useable. Mine came from my Dealer in Switzerland. I've been told that if you search enough that Fiocci can be found, but too expensive.
Conversion is the only real way for anyone to enjoy shooting these rifles. My Grandson really likes this one. In this photo he's learning the correct sight picture before shooting a dozen rounds.
