Our Sgt. Hanks with my sniper rifle in a reserve area a mile behind the front.
Yes, Joe Roberts. He was chosen as the unit sniper and given an M1C in addition to his regular M1. In this photo his sergeant had borrowed it to have some fun up at the line. Joe always remembered his regular rifle and wanted to learn what happened to it. GCA found it at CMP and bought it for him. Then-President Tony Pucci and I went up to Mass and presented it to him... VERY emotional.
