When did the laminated stock and cupped buttplate become standard?
Thank you.
Note that from 1943 onwards Mauser Oberndorf (byf) was putting high quality walnut stocks on service rifles sporadically. Speculation is that they had a pre-war stock of wood for ceremonial or commercial rifles that was given over to wartime need.
My December of 1941 AR rifle has the laminate stock but the non-cupped butt plate. I always find it interesting that differences occur and it helps to show how war uses up every resource, no matter how small.
i actually had a late war Kriegsmodell stock in walnut , so they were never exclusive to laminate
Plus remember alot of WWI rifle were arsenal refinished an put into laminated stocks. Some had the original stock cut to cupped butt plate.
