Top pic, cracks in the upper handguard. Must have got it good and hot a couple times, too tight fitment.
Looks like he's set up with AP rounds. Concealment does not equal cover.
If I remember right, that came about during Korea when they shifted the bulk of rifle ammo over to AP for better ballistics and accuracy. I don't think it was really to cover off the supposition that Korean soldiers ALL wore body armor, instead they had a quilted vest for warmth and the guys weren't placing shots very well. But anywayzzz, AP was standard issue I think.
