Hello all,
As some may have remembered I acquired a 1903 A4. I lucked up and found an original Redfield scope base/rings for the rifle. I now need to find the correct screws to mount the scope base to the rifle. I am sure some of you guru's (LOL) know exactly what type of screws I need, and where to find it (Lowes/ Home Depot)

there was a set for sale on ebay not to long ago. dont think youll find those perticular screws at home depot, cause of the grove to lock into bottom of the rings.
The other screws are color casehardened, but can't see the base screws well enough to tell if they were as well. I can tell that they were staked, but not the finish.
From your description it sounds like you need the screws that attach the base to the receiver.
Try a gunsmith supply house like Brownell's.
The rear screw is a No. 8 Filister head (.164" 40NS 3X .250")
The front screw is a No. 8 Filister head (.164" 40NS 3X .510")
The last number in the spec is the length of each screw.
If you also tell the supplier they are for mounting a Redfield Jr. Base to an A4 receiver that may help.
The GI Part numbers are:

I had an original 1903A4 with the M73B1 scope until I sold it to a collector last month for almost $5,000. Because of its collector value I treated it like a safe queen and only shot it twice in the entire 10+ years that I owned it.
$995 sounds like a good price for a replica that you wouldn't worry about taking into the field and enjoying it for what it is, providing the quality is decent. I think that I'd like to handle one and have a close look at it before I'd lay down my money, however.
The base mounting screws on my CMP rifle are parked & staked. I suspect they were originally casehardened, but parked at some time by the arsenal. Redfield sold the JR bases & screws until fairly recently, & you can sometimes find them on the online auctions; it should be easy & cheap to have the screws parked.
