Canadian No.15 chest makers.......

I picked up two Cdn no15 chests a couple years back. Both were dated 1943 and had the makers mark KML.

I have a dozen or two of the Cno7 chests, but they are all either marked LB or else HCF.

I know! I have gone over this rifle with a fine tooth comb, and cannot find hide nor hair of a "Z" stamp on it. Rifle itself is absolutely beautiful. If weather is nice tomorrow after work, I'll try to get a good set of pictures up.

Where should I look for a "Z" stamp on the rifle?

In my era, the Z or ZF would be dobbed on the butt - or elsewhere - in yellow paint. I did zillions of them and SLR's. Well, maybe noit zillions but plenty! Look for any indication that someone's rubbed it down and there might be traces of paint in the grain. If it's clean/clear, then the Z on the transit label is probably not significant

It is interesting that you would mention that the lack of tacks in the end of a chest would be suspicious. I have a attached a picture of the end of an L 42 chest I had here for a rebuild a few years ago. The chest I repaired had about 30 tacks and quite a few staples in each end of the chest, obviously this chest was in service for a very long time?
