I suppose one could look on the bright side. Somone is employeed making handgrip boat paddles. And saving lives if you are ever up a creek without a paddle ( so to speek). Were I there I would feel much safer.

I try to look on the bright side here...I have several pieces I really like, one is a Krag carbine...a real one...M1's, M4gery...about 20 handguns of all the major player. That's not too bad overall. I can reload to feed them and that helps. I'd love to have an original type carbine like the OPs but sometimes you have to settle...
I like Bill's too with the aluminum butt, I had a couple of those.
I also have what is called a "Hammerhead" grip, that replaces the pistol grip with a paddle. It allows a better grasp of the weapon, allowing a wrap around grip. It has a feel much like an FN P90 PDW grip. It is better than a paddle, but uglier by far. Here it is on the M4gery build I traded my son for the retro CAR15 stuff.

What was the point of adding that abortion to the grip? I live in MO and we don't have those stupid rules yet but some bozo politicians keep trying.
He is the short version:
A semi automatic, center-fire rifle is an assault rifle if it has a detachable magazine and any one of the following evil features: pistol grip, flash hider, collapsible stock, flare or grenade launcher,or forward pistol grip. If it has a fixed magazine of 10 rounds or less (i.e. SKS, or an AR with a bullet button magazine release that requires a tool to release magazine, and that magazine is 10 rounds or less) it can have any or all evil features you like with the fixed 10 magazine.... STUPID!
Possession of an unregistered assault rifle (no more could be registered after 1-1-2000), it is a FELONY, punishable by 5 years in prison....
If you have a semi-automactic, center-fire rifle that has NO EVIL FEATURES (I.E. M1 Carbine, Mini-14/30, factory configuration Saiga, etc) you are not limited to 10 rounds and can have a standard magazine release. The caveat is, however, you must have possessed those greater than 10 round magazines : legally, in California, before 1-1-2000. If you moved here after that, or have a weapon that was designed after 1-1-2000 and uses a proprietary magazine (like 6.8SPC II) you are out of luck.
You can make an AR or AK featureless with a kydex paddle on the grip, or a hammerhead grip, replace any flash hider with a muzzle break, and pin any collapsible stock so it is fixed. Even is you don't have pre-1-1-2000 magazines, you can use a standard mag release and 10 rounders.
I am fortunate that I possessed an AR15 and an AK in the 80s, that I registered the first go around in 1990. I sold them in 2000, but kept the magazines. I also have had M1 Carbines since the 80s, and a HK91 back in the 90s, so I have my pre-ban magazines.

Doesn't matter, we'll come shoot'em all and do the beer and BBQ after.
