WOW I had no idea you were supposed to remove the front sight protector when shooting. For years I shot my Smith Corona 03-A3 with it on. If I still had the rifle it would still be on it. never had the least bit of trouble aquiring a sight picture with it.

You might have been surprised at how much better you could shoot with it off though.
At first I tried shooting with it on and there's no argument that you will get a better picture, that's easier to see clearly with it off.
It was not intended to be left on, but If someone is happier with it on that's their choice.
(People watching you shoot with it on might make fun of you behind your back though) ;)

FWIW In most photos of AEF soldiers in action in France the protector seems to be in place. I do have in my collection a photo of Gen. John J Pershing visiting the AEF Rifle and Pistol Competition held at Le Mans in May 1919. All shooters there are shooting with the cover removed. Steve McG
