I would like to rebarrel several LE actions to the correct heavy barrel contour of the L42 and L39 rifles. Does anybody know of a source of information as to the outside contour diameters of these barrels?

Spend a few pounds a join the British NRA, then ask for an introduction to someone who can give you the critical information.
Your barrel maker should be able to follow the contour on his copy lathe as he machines the externals - unless you want the hammer forged appearance too.
This info was posted sometime back. Anyone save the post as I can't find it. Several folks responded and the dimensional details of both barrel types were posted. It a good request; some a barrel manufacturer won't have unless they done the work previously. Let's try to help the guy out.
Here's a link from the archives that may help:

You should be able to find a decent original barrel or two. Ask the old target shooters in your area.
Hope this is of help :- A post from the 'Old Jouster' forum :

AND, if using new manufactured barrels you had better have deep pockets for "the several" you wish to do. You are probably looking at 6 to
$800.00 US per gun
Hi everyone,
I posted the request linked to above. The most helpful response I received directed me to Fultons of Bisley who have the full collection of 7.62x51mm Enfield barrel drawings, inlcuding the L39 & L42. They are not, however, able to reproduce them due to copyright reasons and the copyright holders, Nottingham Small Arms Factory (a subsidary of H&K) will NOT deal with the civilian public under any circumstances. In fact none of my repeated e-mails to NSAF were ever answered and I had to resort to asking a friend in law enforcement here in the States to contact their H&K rep to see if he could shake something loose. No joy their either, though at least he got the decency of a response.
In short, if you live in the UK, give Fultons a ring and ask if you can come down and view the drawings, you won't be allowed to copy them, but you can take notes.
Cheers
Just buy a few of the numerous target No.4 conversions floating around the UK and the Commonwealth and remove the barrels. They're good for 5000 rounds or more I was told.
After checking to make sure this is OK, I have an offer to make to the board.
By profession I'm a draughtsman. Given I've been trying to build up an L42 clone myself for quite a while, I have a vested interest in the availability of high quality barrel drawings for the L42 that any one of us can send off to our barrel maker of choice, so here’s my offer:
I have a barrel drawing started based on the few hard numbers I have been able to secure from members of this board and L42 owners. I will provide blank versions of this drawing to anyone who would be willing to visit Fultons and manually copy the (probably copious) notes on their original barrel drawing and return it to me. After receiving the marked up drawing I will transcribe the notes into AutoCAD and post the completed drawing on the forum for public use in both PDF and DWG formats.
Grant580 has graciously agreed to vouch for my drafting ability and anyone with questions in that vein should contact him.
Cheers!
