Apologies if if this has been posted already, but just saw this promo poster for the Mandalorian, which features most of a MkI Bren. I'm pleased that the new Disney owners of the Star Wars franchise are continuing the proud tradition of using WW2 British milsurps in their prop weapons department. :thup::D

It must have been filmed in the USA as the gun body is made of a Mk2 front (gas vent/cylinder and barrel locating peg) and the rear is obviously Enfield Mk1.

It is interesting. Just finished watching several YouTube videos with Larry Vickers and Ken Hackathorn visit ISS, Independent Studio Services, ( movie gun rentals) in Los Angeles. It is a 3 part series. They cover a lot of regular guns used in various movies, but if you watch the whole thing, there are some mocked up fake guns with fantastical additives. And while most of the main actors guns are made up from real weapons, many times they end up doing molds and pulling out lighter weight synthetics. But that Bren is more than likely at least real parts cobbled together.
Hollywood, or ISS does have their gunsmiths who modify weapons for them.

All of the Star Wars guns, from 1975 onward, were made up from stocks of original guns held by Bapty’s, in Southall, UK.
Long ago, during the filming of the original first couple of movies, a LOT of pristine MG-15’s & MG-34’s got pretty well cut up and destroyed for making expedient props back when such guns were not highly valued. “Saving Private Ryan” changed all that and now original guns are pretty much valued too highly for movie use, “lifelike” replica model makers have taken up the slack.
I’ve rented out many originals in my collection for USA-based filming crews, it is staggering what the film rental market will bear for rental fees. Also, the gaming industry has been very lucrative over the years in their quest to sound record actual gun sounds for proper accuracy. A day or three at the range with their sound crew capturing authentic machine gun fire is very lucrative.

Some of those Baptys guns have come on to the market in recent years. The boys frame with a savage No.4 action bolted to it springs to mind.

“Saving Private Ryan” was a fairy tale. You cannot take the scope off an '03A4 and expect it to maintain zero.
"...sound record actual gun sounds..." By far, very, very few gaming industry programmers have ever seen a real firearm. Never mind fired one. The U.S. Army put a few of 'em through weapons training, several years ago(forget how long ago. More than 10 years) when they were working on a PBI training simulator, so the programmers had an idea of what real shooting was like.
Movie gun shot sounds are added in Post Production. They don't think real gun shots sound real enough.
Saving Private Ryan had much of the weapons fired in the landings done against a bluescreen and they were actual weapons firing. That achieves the realism of sound and watching an MG 42 fire. Then edit in the downrange screen... Same with BOB during the training in England scenes just before the jump into Normandy, the weapon training was live firing of Thompsons and other small arms, and specially the rocket launcher where you actually saw the rocket go down range from the back of the launcher and strike. Don't know where they found a live 2.75 rocket though...or was it a 3.5? It's the easiest way to do things now.Quote:
