OK just for closure. So it seems the .303 bolt that was supposed to be sent back to me when I converted from 54R was NOT a .303 bolt but the same 54R bolt as before. So... the spent casing was just...

OK just for closure. So it seems the .303 bolt that was supposed to be sent back to me when I converted from 54R was NOT a .303 bolt but the same 54R bolt as before. So... the spent casing was just...
Well, after having NO luck with the recoil springs, I am really beginning to suspect the bolt. I THINK it is dropping the spent cartidge into the receiver on extraction. Take a look at the vid. My...
Thanks Wally. Yeah, I thought about chopping the striker spring, but that spring is significantly less stiff than the recoil spring(s) in the buttstock. Since it kept getting worse as I chopped the...
OK gang hoping for some direction here. Working with an Historic Arms semi MKII in .308. I have a .303 bolt in there with a .308 extractor. (casings are a bit "loose" in the bolt face when clipped...
Are you looking for the T&E or just a single adapter piece?
I'm in the same boat with a MKII from Len that I originally had built in 54R. Worked OK - MANY problems and several BOOMS thanks to headspacing we just couldn't work with the 54R. After a BOOM that...
Gentlemen: I want to again thank all of the members hereabouts who helped diagnose and fix my Bren. You will recall the rather lengthy thread about it. (54R issues) Converted by the builder to...
Quite True Wally. But Vincent showed where mine was indeed cut too deeply. If the HS is different or whatever, I'll have to buy Vincent's barrel (at a vastly inflated price... right Vince!)
Thanks Vince. I will order a barrel from Omega and then ship it out to you to ream. They don't do online stuff, so I have to send a check, then then send it to me, then I have to send it to you...
Thanks Peter, I suppose it was the positioning guide to which I am referring. So it was in earlier model MK Barrel then.
Peter, what barrel do I have there with the slot in the bottom? Vince's barrel doesn't have it and while I can get it to fit into my gun, it isn't perfect.
Thanks
OK gang. The final update. With now 260 rounds of steel cased ammo fired with Vincent's (properly reamed barrel) and having suffered NO malfunctions, I have to say, the answer was.... improperly...
And as the grateful temporary recipient of said barrel, I can attest that it shoots great (so far) Both steel and brass.
That's Funny! Why didn't you TELL me about the finger gauge! I have ten of those. LOL Anyway, as I have tried to photograph. The bolt appears to rest directly upon the stops - not the shell...
Joe - I'm with you. I'm doing what I can with what I have. If there is a head spacing gauge (as opposed to the feeler gauge) I can get it and see, but we pretty well know the barrel that was sent...
Yep. Which makes it all the more confusing since if it were ONLY a head spacing issue, the brass shouldn't have fixed the problem. But it did. Furthermore, changing barrels to Vince's barrel also...
Yes, Vince I used the regulator on it. Started on the lowest setting and it cycled MOST of the time. Moved it up to the second to lowest setting, and it functioned perfectly.
Now all I need to do...
GREAT! Will you tell that to the builder who keeps telling me it's the ammo and refusing to warranty his work?
Thanks AM. The whole point of this was to be able to shoot the 54R cartridge. It's simple math. .303 = .70 per round and 54R = .22 centts. As for Len - well, it is what it is. I believe that he...
NEW UPDATE. Took the Bren to the range today with Vincent's 54R barrel. Shot 70 rounds of steel cased and 20 rounds of the Yugo brass cased with NO problems. Go figure. I know 60 rounds is not...
OK Gang; I installed Vince's barrel. It seems to be a bit thicker than mine and I had a bit of trouble getting it through the horseshoe shaped part that sticks up behind the gas regulator. In...
Thanks Vince. The pics above are w/o a shell in the chamber. However, as I indicated before, my bolt does not come to rest on the back of the round, but rather the front stops. A pocket as you see...
OK a few extra pics at Vince's request showing various aspects of the internals of my Bren. For reference, the feeler gauge between the bolt carrier and the wall of the receiver on the left side is...
Yep. Vincent is the greatest. I'm sending it back to have him trim it down. The question is since his shoulder didn't allow for much, if any, room for bolt movement when installed, (still couldn't...
Right with you Joe! Head spacing is the next thing to try. I will get Vince's shoulder piece and take a feeler gauge measurement. Try both brass and steel and report back.
