got the receiver prepped and blued. Turned out nice. I left some of the deeper pits and dings for character so that it matches the well worn original butt.

my 97 adapter and heat shield should come in next month. I'm surprised at your experience. Being the only person making these parts, I'd think there would be an attempt to keep the market cornered. I...
I pin tumble range brass. My own brass that never hits the floor gets walnut media tumbled for 2-3 reloads, then pin tumbled (no reason other than time/hassle drying...even with a dryer). I use...
even nuisance species deserve a clean, quick death. We were taught that at the youngest of ages....laying as still as a 5yr old could in the tall grass next to mom's garden, sniping birds with a red...
It is a commercial base.
My #5-48 tap came in from fleabay yesterday. I test drilled and tapped some holes in an 1/4 inch aluminum plate to make sure it would work with my screw. Starting with a #37 bit, I worked my way up...
the new "expert grade" cmp rifles have refinished receivers, new barrel and wood, and at least on the two I have, they refinished the gas cylinder by painting with something. It has a glazed on,...
Friends...this thread cracks me up (in a very polite and admiring way). We had a saying..."If you're not complaining, then you're not happy". But boy ole boy did we know the difference between a...
many in Iraq in the early days had the "new" (USMC definition) kevlar jackets, but no Molle gear. The current issued load bearing vests were a PIA to use with the jackets, so many opted to put on the...
Thanks for looking that up wjw! I need to find me a copy of that.
According to my chart......
I've been at that buggered screw all weekend long.
First attempt...what little slot was left I deepened with a needle tip diamond abrasive tool on my dremmel. It worked to deepen the slot, but no...
took some vacation days this week. was tearing the receiver on this one down to get it ready for re-finishing. The inside is full of dull reddish brown sludge. Will get a good scrub before boiling....
What a great book! During the lockdowns I started a book review thread somewhere, and this was on it.
If I'm remembering the book correctly, they used these 1903A1's successfully for a day. When...
I highly recommend the book about Chapman, called "Alone at Dawn". It covers the circumstances of the operation in which he gave up his life and more -- all I'll say is there was some real shady...
Assuming the bedding is solid and even under the receiver flat, and in the recoil area (behind the magazine), the next key area is the barrel band. It should fit snug so that it it won't slip off...
Do you mean arsenal rebuilds, or private owner rebuild? The latter is very believable. In fact I've seen many drilled and tapped regular A3's with the 3 x'd out and a 4 stamped in. First I've ever...
The lines inside looks like someone twisting back and forth to remove a tool, or maybe a stuck/bent op rod that got jammed in there. That is not the way they would have backed out the reamer during...
I read this one last year. I don't recall any descriptions of American weaponry - I could be wrong. He extensively described captured Russian rifles and ammunition which was used until Germany took...

oh my thanks. what a great laugh!
With primers going for a premium now, no way I'd fire the spider out or float him out with water. I'd of probably tweezererd, until that failed, then set it aside...
feedback is rigged. Ebay could care less about the buyers as they make their money on the seller fees. Case in point, I tried to leave negative feedback a couple times...unresponsive seller, damaged...
This is the best part. I love inventing stories to fill in the service history of a rifle. For the first rifle, I was gong to say shrapnel, then of course a bring back with that beautiful mum.
many trapdoor's have great bores like this from metal protected by a thin glazing of soft lead and/or wax, but with the crown chewed up from cleaning rod wear. At least that's what I found in the...
