I got a service grade M1 around this time last year and this is what I received. It came with a wonderful USGI birch stock set. I was actually wanting a birch sock set and with my luck I got a very...
Browning, he did post pics eventually. I don't have an account on that website so I can't view them. But they are there.
What is the point of having the screws in the rec. is it to make it look cosmetically better or does it add some lost rigidity?
JackP,
When I bought the Carbine, I immediatley checked for wear on the left lug because I noticed it dragging on the screws. The lug is fine and I backed out the offending screw for the time...
I will get back to you on the barrel questions when I get some time off work. And off the top of my head the carbine is a 3.6 mil then Id have to look at the rest of the rec.
I will probably pull...
Ask and you shall receive.
I picked it up in a trade plus cash. Traded an Steyr M95/30 that was all matching, counter bored, and was needing major stock repairs. I thought it would be interesting...
I picked up a second one a few weeks ago. Once I get two of something I usually look at getting the book for them.
Thanks for the help guys!
I am looking into purchasing Larry Ruth's book on the M1 Carbine. I see that there are three volumes available. In short my question is which volume gives me the most bang for my buck information and...

The bore was dirty when I bought it. I just cleaned it out this morning and it is nice and shiny. But it swallows a 30-40 round all the way up to the rim of the case. The rounds used were 180 gr....
Picked up this Carbine today. Today was also a lesson learned in regard to buying firearms second hand. I bought this rifle at my LGS after I looked it over a few times while there. After I got home...

I am looking for a Type 99 firing pin to replace one in a rifle that has been shattered. Thanks!
I just wanted to make sure. I looked at photos of some Portuguese rifles and they had some German proofs. But overall I am happy with the purchase. I got it for $550.
I looked at those and they there were examples with crests. However I heard that they might have also stamped the stock on the left side but there is no stamping not even faint. So I was left leaning...
I picked this rifle up at a gunshow and for my collection. I just wanted to know if the rifle was in German service or was an export as I heard that some models were shipped to South America. However...
rcathey, you are correct it is that book. The author said he was put on a detail to clean them but they didn't know why they were cleaning them until they were on Peleliu.
I am surprised to hear this, but I see it within the realm of possibilities. Wouldn't Springfield want another outlet for the manufacture M1s for the GI had the Cold War gone hot and SA had been hit...
Netherlands maybe?
