It's the Mantle that has me wondering. Yes, repurposed for sure...
Confused the issue for a minute with the pic of Doolittle there...had to read it all.
It would be an interesting addition to a collection, for the markings. It's all history.
This thing has been resurrected by someone to APPEAR to be something it isn't.
Lets put the pics up so guys can actually see them here...
After capitulation you could find lots of them that insisted they hadn't been defeated at all, they were ordered to surrender.
They look like scratches.
That one looks like a well used one to begin with. The lines inside are from a man twisting something back and forth. The whole thing looks sandblasted.
You see though they're talking about several different firearms being marked this way. I expect others to come along shortly...here...
Here's a whole discussion from past years about it...might help you to understand it. Why would IRS/ATF issue a new serial number for Amnesty registration? - Class III Forum - MachineGunBoards.com...
You bet. Ours were no different with the 502 scopes, just a top heavy piece of crap and not a great addition.
I think it was made up at best. We used to use our own textiles tech to sew specialty stuff for us. Did they go to a lot of trouble? Yes, they usually do. Date stamps, maker marks, inspector...
I have a couple .455 and lots of variation of .45ACP but never found an M1923 cartridge. Closest I have is the .45 Win Mag...about a quarter inch longer.
I forgot about those...I had to add those after the fact. There had been some in there at one time to help remedy a split stock but they had been removed. The whole stock came a part like a...
Well, I cheated. I had an earlyish 1928 with many early features. It had a Nickle bolt, and one piece ejector for instance. It was marked to the Bapty Movie Company...a vet bringback from Italy...
Is one from a 1921 and one a 1928? Early '21 Guns have thinner fins than later ones. Fins on a Colt Gun are more rounded than WW2 Fins. WW2 1928 Fins are more square. some WH barrels have rounded...
Nice lookin' rifles. I've always wanted to shoot an original to see how well I could do with one.
Don't think I've ever seen them made from Ross rifles before.
I first wondered if it would be a holdover from the past. Not uncommon... I couldn't find anything about them though. The bulging pockets reminded me of the cargo pockets of the pants. I thought...
I'm hoping one of the old RVN hands here will fill us in on what exactly the story on that is. The M1 will get the job done however.
When I first looked at it, I wondered. The wing has such a strange cant to it I wondered how it could actually fly...
I wouldn't think either case. I saw this pic and just took it to be what it appears to be...a posed pic by a photog on the spot making his picture as interesting as he could.
I did but chose...
