Bigduke, I am trying to send you a PM about ...'a No4t is going' -but your inbox is full so my message can't go.
Can you clear out your inbox or PM me?
Rob
Cinders, best take along a No 4 rifle to test the fit?
The interweb tells me a No 4 is 44.5 inches long, whereas a Bren Mk1 & Mk2 is slightly longer at 45.5 inches but a Bren Mk3 & Mk4 only 42.9...
Am I correct in thinking that muzzle attachments, by diverting gases sideways, can cause a cloud of dust to rise and reveal the sniper's position?
I have read that snipers sometimes shoot over a...
i could be wrong, but it sounds like there could be lead deposits in your rifling. Could that fit?

I'm asking this on behalf of a colleague who's posted this on the HBSA members forum - can anyone identify the S-two-arrows stamp? On a Sam Brown and a .303 bandolier
I still have a couple of lengths of 1941 dated twine which would be suitable for transit chests; yours for the price of the stamp if you PM me.
I was intrigued to come across this, which I didn't know, though others may be familiar with it. [Dysentery is a form of infectious diarrhoea, can be severe or fatal, and characteristically causes ...
Garandy, have you had a look at this?
Weapons: Slings
Gil, I just had a word with Charlize [en in Afrikaans, nogal] and she tells me she fancies you, too.
Here's South Africa's most famous scout, Danie Theron, with his bicycle. He led Theron se Verkenningskorps (Theron's Reconnaissance Corps), and twice crept through the British encircling lines at...
I used Canada balsam or equivalent for gluing coverslips to microscope slides of blood smears or tissue sections. its used widely. Modern equivalents are transparent for decades, older products may...
Can anyone comment on the unusual sling arrangement on these MLE Mk I rifles? Can you identify the unit? The date is probably 1902, they are wearing their QSA medals.

My LEC1 is from the same batch; same marking, rack number only 3 higher than yours!
I also thought that 4 H = 4th Hussars, but if I am wrong, I would be happy to be corrected.

Have you got access to another No4 rifle, so you can compare lengths of the barrels and of the fore-ends?
As far as I know, the 1st - 4th Battalions KRR all fought in the South African War 1899-1902 -- but not the 7th Battalion, which was a militia battalion.
Hal, I'm happy to take detailed pics of the bits you are making up - like the extractors etc. I guess. PM me if you get stuck.
Hal - any success?
BS1283 - superbly rebuilt by Phil Rose - solid barrel
I'm thrilled if I can make a 6 inch circle at 200 yards.
And when I've taken out the stock bolt, I'd grind off the square section at the end so no poor soul screws up the fore end in future.
Wood is getting scarce, and personally I've not known a bolt...
Hal,

do you mean 6" (six inches) at 1040 yards? Or 6' (six feet?)
Here's my 5c worth:
If you clamp a 1 inch broomstick in the cradle in place of the scope, you' may get a quick idea whether your cradle is parallel to the bore. I imagine a 1 inch copper tube could...
