I asked ATF this very question. Was thinking about making one.
They said they’d have to see the actual rifle in question to make a ruling.

So it’s possible they’d rule a cutaway sufficiently...

I was able to find obituaries for G J Novak. A few even matching up to some you listed.

None that featured a "Mary" though.

I do have a membership to a newspaper archive website.
I searched for Mary Ann Novak and found no results with a relation to any G J Novak.

Maybe they didn't end up together.

Agreed. But so did I. Hard to be upset about a $270 profit.
I'm happy, the buyer's happy. The auction company didn't even know what they had.
    Everyone wins.

It was listed on GunBroker. It only went for $300. Less than I was hoping for but, that's how it goes sometimes.

    I sent him a PM.

I don't mean to post things as advertisements...in fact I usually wait until I've sold the items before sharing unless I need some advice on what I found.
    Got a little excited...

Ian of Forgotten Weapons did a Q&A once. The question was, basically, "what's the rifle?" Presumably it included a picture. He essentially said, "Even without looking at the picture, it's...

    Tastes come and go!

I’m getting into early semi-auto rifles now. I’ve turned loose of a couple US military rifles to fund that new focus.

Trying to thin out the 1903 Sporter collection a bit...

    Air Service 1903 Magazine

These aren't often seen so I thought I'd share.

This came from an online auction which, admittedly, I knew did not offer shipping.
After winning, and begging for an exception, I was charged a...

    Still looks great to me!
Even if it’s just an homage to the striker knob, that’s pretty cool.

Now just to find the right rifle to put it on!

I’d give you half your money back for the bolt.
    I think it’s neat!

Edit: I posted too quick before seeing your comment haha. I thought it looked like an acorn.

    Agreed, even without pics!

I even prefer a gun with some honest wear over one with a pristine finish.
Not much interesting about a gun that sat in a sock drawer for 100 years!

I bought some years ago from Lucky Gunner (I think).
At the time it was very cheap and I shot quite a bit through my Garand.

I suspect these days it is much closer in price to higher quality...

Just got the call to pay for shipping. I’m in these for a total of just under $200. Hard to lose at that price!

Should be able to share more pictures later this week.

Even as fakes, that's not a bad price.

    Auction Mystery - Shin Gunto?

Been a while since I posted an auction mystery/gamble thread.

Didn't pay a whole lot and only paid that because they felt like WW2 era swords...but I am FAR from knowledgeable on these things.
