He died on Dominion Day. The text chosen is an unusual one: "Yet a little while, and the world shall see me no more, but ye shall see me; because I live, ye shall live also."
I think there is a thread for comments and suggestions. You're right that the photo uploading process is a bit more cumbersome and confusing than it should be. It would be nice if a whole group of...
If I understood you correctly the screw is longer because it's intended to get the sling loop above the little "U" loop on the guard made to hold breech covers in place.
Peter has said in the past...
How about a nice M8 4x and call it a day, or maybe a M8 2x? ;)
The ideal mounts don't yet exist IMHO, but the Armalon with windage adjustable steel rings would be the strongest and allow...
It must have hurt the NDHQ drones to finally have to close the file on the replacement for the No.4; after all, actually making a decision and concluding a matter is like putting yourself out of a...
Good thing inflation is as low as it is. ;)
Contact Brian Dick perhaps?
My opinion is it's an early receiver from Fazackerly, the A suffix serial indicates this, but rough as guts overall and definitely NOT a trials receiver.
The No.5 trigger guard doesn't "belong" on...
Forget most of what I said in #83 which was based on the previous statement that the backsight had a ball-bearing detent: it doesn't.
The machining on the receiver is also too rough to be RSAF(E)....
Funny sort of after-thought isn't it? Or were they actually trying to make it easier to grasp and raise the long range sight, as well as the safety?
If not you'd wonder why they didn't lengthen...
Curious how the long range sight is bent, and from the wear was a long time ago.
Sadly Bubba just couldn't resist having a go at sanding the wood, but still rare as hen's teeth.
Congrats on...
A well known photo: Trophy Gun of the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles Okanagan Military History
It's a VERY early rifle built at Fazakerly(? on a leftover trials body (receiver).
The simplified cocking piece is very unusual, and we wouldn't expect to see a Long Branch pressed safety catch...
Unicam or United I have no stake in either. ;) Could be just variations of the same name, in fact that is the most likely interpretation I suggest.
Clearly much remains in the Vickers archive,...
I can see you put a lot of work into the surface prep and it shows!
It would be interesting to see an SMLE finished by that method next to one still in original finish; the colour looks very close...
My guess would be the trace lit at 100 and burned out by 600 metres, more or less.
So the word "batch" is common to both languages, I wasn't aware of that.
That is very nice looking rust bluing as you say. Did you do it or get it done somewhere?
Right, that would satisfy me then.
I expect you are in the credits? ;)
The British, Canadian and probably ANZAC snipers generally operated with an observer using binoculars or telescope. Not always of course, but usually and that is who would observe the fall of shot...
If you want the original sight graduations to match precisely at all ranges you'll need to cut it down to No.5 Rifle ("Jungle Carbine") length and fit one of the 800 yard backsights made for those.
...
Thanks Roger: the numbers on yours fit the pattern?
Years ago I found the name of a gent online who worked during WWII for Unicam Instruments Cambridge (he still lived there IIRC) and phoned him...
Can you confirm the date Sapper740?
Meant to add this yesterday.
The stock is dated 1900 so 3.98(?) on the disc is a somewhat odd. The wood does look entirely undisturbed around the disk although the screw appears to have had a good sanding at some point while...
As others have mentioned already there are various possibilities, including an in-service job though if the markings are poorly done that is unlikely.
Photos would help and the most obvious...
