I believe that is a sight adjusting tool, for setting precise elevations.
Looks to be a Mk. IIIB to which a modified M1907 SMLE bayonet has been fitted.
It appears to be a commercial Mk.III Snider Enfield. Tasteful engraving on the lock suggests commercial, not issue. Block locking thumb latch = Mk.III. 5 groove barrel = Mk.III. Short rear sight...
I didn't want to alter the original front sight of my 91/41, so I just made a higher front sight and saved the original. Easier to do when the front sight is a separate part.
Take one of the fired cases and section it so that you can see whether or not there is any sign of incipient separation.
A rough chamber can cause extraction issues. If extraction is normal, don't...
Indeed RCAF, not RCMP! I think my sight comments would still apply. The Mk. II sights were culled in CDN service, being replaced with Mk. IIIs.
The rifle probably left SAL with the 2 range Mk. II sight. In all likelihood, this would have been replaced with a Mk. III. A RCMP armourer might have installed a Mk. I, for enhanced adjustability....
Looking for the bolt for DWM Boer Mauser 175.
I have Ludwig Lowe Boer Mauser bolt B9553. Do you have the rifle?
There was a thread strted in 2010. Thought there was more chance of someone noticing in this subforum.
I've let David George know about this bolt.
I just managed to acquire the matching bolt...
Do you have this rifle? I have the bolt for it. Reunite them?
I bought one, unissued in the crate, all matching, in the late '60s for $79.95. 90L8030.
A split dovetail would be used with a solid front sight base, solid dovetail with the clamp type.
If someone installed a 7mm Venezuelan barrel on an Egyptian rifle, I would give it a really good inspection before shooting it Could be just fine, but who knows who did it, and how well was it done....
Savage made a fabricated, stamped, front sight protector.
Did a quick 'net search. From the photos I found, no provision for a bayonet.
Perhaps the firing pin is insufficiently supported, allowing the metal to be blanked back into the firing pin hole in the bolt face.
Just watched one of Ian McCollum's videos, about the MP28. One of the auction guns that he has demo'd. No MP28 magazines, so he was using Sten mags. Gun ran like a top.
Very nice rifle!
HG rifles tend to be in either respectable original condition, or sported. They exhibit all early Mk. III features; no reason for later modifications to have occurred.
Mine is stamped HG100. No...
Trying to remember - C&O ran the car ferry across the St. Clair River?
I met Harry Toye in the early '60s when I was in my teens. Grew up in Sarnia, know Corunna. Did you know Sherm and Ken Ball who operated Corunna Hardware? Ken had gone to Colorado to take the...
From the collection of the late Harry Toye. I have no doubt that he could have accessed the C No. 7 parts. Keep in mind that No. 4T kits were C$79.95 in the late '60s. Making up a .22 would not...
Nice rifle!
A higher front sight to get elevation zero?
Many years ago, I saw some No.2 Mk. IV rifles which were still in use. Apparently the Cooey sights didn't stay tight on the receivers - so...
I have been shooting one of my Boer Mausers. Very similar to your rifle. Interesting to compare it to a MLE. Charger loading vs loose rounds, etc.
