I always found wartime clips with some wear on them worked almost perfectly. This one will smooth up too.
Try cleaning some of the parkerizing off the clips with scotchbrite or emery or some such, that may free them up.
Maybe...a little scotchbrite or emery paper and oil on the inside flats. It could be parkerizing, specially if they're "Greek black"... Smoother and almost finish removed makes them run easier...
Agreed, some need a boost and some don't. Nothing out of the ordinary.
