I finally found some time to provide the membership an update and feedback on these recent Fall firearms editions of the Poulin's Auction (click here) and James Julia Auction (click here)
We were fortunate enough to have our own Roving Reporter on the ground at these auctions, to provide his opinion and analysis on some of the more interesting items, after he had a chance to examine and handle them up close.
I'll spread these reports over several posts in this thread during the next few days, but let's start with the first five items of interest.
Regards,
Badger

Coarse checkered lower hand guard shows good with light nicking toward the front and a few more moderate dents and a couple of chips toward the rear. Buttstock shows good with light and moderate dinging throughout and the number 821 painted on the left hand side. Rifle has a brass museum tag with ‘#050’ on the trigger guard. Lot 2015 - SMLE Mk VI—1930 original s/n A0277 reserial numbered 13A on receiver, bolt and forend. The bad: incorrect Fazakerly rear sight, modified incorrect SMLE Mk III cut off, incorrect but proper front sight protector, it is waisted but is marked SM41. Rifle has lots of dings and forend appears to have been lightly sanded a long time ago. The good : still has original SMLE Mk VI mag and the major parts match. Therefore museam quality no..but still decent example with problems.

Poulins 2016 - Mauser 98 (Cutaway) Bolt Action Rifle. Cal. 8mm Mauser. NSN. Overall condition is near excellent. Bore is near excellent. A Czechoslovakian training aid which is a cutaway of a model 98 Mauser. The European craftsmanship of this cutaway is very obvious, and has also had the follower ground so it does not stay open on the last shot to facilitate example operation. Even the rear sight assembly has been skeletonized to show internals. Circled Z marks on many components. Has a 23 ½” barrel. Very unusual piece of military history. (08-848-1 / NW / BS) Curio. Est. $ 2000 – 3000

Lot 2016 - Mauser cut away. Looks good to an uneducated eye, but forend within 10 cm of the tip has a repair on the wood. I do not know if this would be correct or not?

Lot 2018 - No. 6 Mk I (Total sadness). It is an original No.6 that has been screwed with heavily. Receiver has been tapped for a scope and filled, rear sight is a fake, top hand guard has damage. Like the above lot, finding a rear sight would be impossible and the filled holes can never go away.
