57 Years Late Vietnam Veteran Awarded Bronze Star, Congrats to USGI'S Brother

If I may,
On behalf of the membership, I'd like to Congratulate one of USGI's (Bob) Older Brothers (82)
who will be Awarded the Bronze Star for Vietnam (57 years late) today Friday 5-23-25. The ceremony will be held at a rural Oregon Fire Station only about a 10 minute drive from Bob's home.

It's just the start of a busy Memorial weekend for our Bob as he also needs to decorate graves of family members at the cemetery by Saturday.
Bob had 5 Uncles that served during WWII in the ETO and PTO that made it home safely.

Congratulations to your Brother and we thank your family for their service

And to think my Uncle Vernon was the only one drafted from the 6th grade
It's great that Gene has finally received the recognition he deserves.
I hope he lives with only the good memories.

As a civilian Joe Galloway: a prominent war correspondent, received the Bronze Star Medal with "V" device (for valor) for his actions during the Battle of Ia Drang in Vietnam, specifically for rescuing wounded soldiers under fire. He is the only civilian to be awarded this medal by the U.S. Army for actions during the Vietnam War. During the Battle of Ia Drang, a major battle in the Vietnam War, Galloway, while serving as a war correspondent, bravely ventured into heavy enemy fire to assist and evacuate wounded soldiers. He is co-author of “We Were Soldiers Once, – And Young.”

Yes, and at the ceremony (even with my hearing aids) I thought Colonel Gibson was saying "B" when explaining it was for exemplary service in combat when applied to the Bronze Star. When I read the newspaper article I finally figured out (duh!) that it was a "V" and not "B".

Can I assume when younger with you being the youngest that they took, tore up and lost your stuff? Taught you when to scream out 'Uncle'. But had your back when the Bully came a calling.

I have just one brother, 3 years younger. But he acted like a older, taking, tearing up and losing my stuff. But I was always bigger and practiced my favorite Big Time Wrestling move on him, The Sheik's Camel Clutch. We still get a big laugh out of it to this day as back then when our Parents were going out they knew we'd end up pushing the furniture in the den to the walls and wrestle. So on leaving my Father would warn...... 'None of that Camel Clutching while we're gone'.

We didn't have many friends come to visit after he'd put the boxing ring in the back garage. We'd pretty much beat everyone we knew.
Just some good memories, that brothers share especially as we get older.
While we hope the bad ones fade away.
