9mm Carbine
I recently purchased an Iver Johnson 9mm Carbine at a pawn shop in Mesa, mostly becuase my kid was with me and went banannas when he spoted it. I feel the way most of you do about non-GI carbines, I'll pass on them just about every time.
So I took this thing to the range, just to try it out, and I was able to hit a six inch plate (could have been 8", could barely see it) at 100 yards, the boy was able to do the same. I had my spring tube winchester, an S'G', and my inland, and between all three, I hit maybe once or twice. I do not understand; the 9mm experiences a lot more drop than the 30 cal, the barrel of the nine is two inches shorter and thin; I do not understand. I would like to sell the thing, but the way I am able to hit with it, I can't find a reason.
Has anyone else shot on of the 9mm carbines and what has been your experience?
By the way, very good functioning, no stoppages!

Amost bought one once, but it was a bit much. A friend bought it and suppressed it (legally!), then sold it. I don't remember much more. I'm more interested in a 5.7mm Johnson calibered carbine, but it'll just have to jump out in front of me, I guess.

The 9mm may have been more dialed in than the others. What magazines does it used. I almost bought one back in the day, but didn't want to get rid of my .30 carbine.

I suspect that the Iver Johnson was sighted in correctly and the other three were not. The carbine uses Browning Hi Power magazines.

There are 20-22 round aftermarket high-power mags out there. You should pick up a few. WHen I had an Inglis HP with a shoulder stock, I had some. They were cool!

Well , I've put together a collection of 13 carbines ove the last 2-3 decades. I'm a shooter and collector , both about equal. That being said , I really did not take my carbines out as much as my subguns or Garands , Johnsons , '03s , .22 trainers ,etc. Decided to change that and I've taken them all out this year , several times each. I would guess that , at the beginning , it would have taken a target of about three feet wide and 5-6 feet tall to catch the groups from them all. I found several that would shoot in 3 inches or so , most all inside 6 , one does about 8 , and one did about 13-15 ( bad stock , replaced it and it did about 8 , but that stock is bad too , so it's in a third stock to be taken out next time). It was not the rifles , but thier lack of sighting in. They are all now sighted in to put thier bullets into a 5-1/2 bull at 100 yds with a six o'clock hold , except the two flipers that hit a tad higher for a 150 yd zero. The point is , they will put all thier bullets into a sheet of typing paper at 100 yds rather than taking a 3X6 foot sheet , and several will keep thiers easily inside the 5-1/2 inch bull.

My range opened the 50 yd. rimfire range to pistol caliber carbines, so I've lately become interested in them. Between me and my regular shooting pal, we have; a HiPoint 995, a stocked Inglis, a .45 ACP Enfield, a .22 Golden Boy, and a Beretta CX4. Lots of fun, we plan to add to the list.
