It would be helpful to post some pictures of your cut-down bayonet, please. It sounds like it could be an Indian cut-down 1907 bayonet because they did this as well as producing their own un-fullered shorter 1907 bayonets. Or it could be Australia or another nation who did the conversion but I doubt it was a D.I.Y. job/man in a shed who did it.
I think that if it was for an Owen smg it would shorter?

Sounds exactly like one I spoke of here recently...and have seen no others. The blade was cut just behind the start of the fuller and a slight Bowie point. Yes, pics would be good...

Thanks for the responses so far. I'll get some photos shortly and post them.

There is one dealer who has a few cut-down 1907 bayonets for sale which are described as "No6 bayonets" and these are significantly shorter than the original 1907 bayo. I wonder if this is what lukejj has? Is anyone able to provide any information on these so called "No6 bayonets"?

Hi,
I've attached some photos I've just taken. As you can see it's a 1915 Lithgow - a bit of a shame that it's been shortened...
Thanks,
Luke

Looks quite like the one I had, mine had a better finish I think. Cut down bayonets was the economical way to issue shorter blades after the war or for the later war. The tip was weaker so it wasn't a perfect situation.

Some were in the field modded more so in WWI than WWII for fighting in the trenches given the standard '07 blade was unwieldy when your trying to kill the enemy at close quarters in a melee in a trench full of other combatants trying to do the same to each other.........
Pity to as it is an early year for the Lithgow factory.

I've edited a couple of the pictures. Is that a serial number?
