Some photos for Bigduke6 and everybody else.

    Hey Bigduke6,

Here are the photos of my rifle with the altered '05 barrel. Took these last summer and I can't believe I didn't take one of the front sight base with the cover off, but believe me, the pin is in the front like yours. Hope I can shoot it as well as you. Way too hot to go to the range now. Almost a hundred every day just upriver of New Orleans, Harahan, La.

Will bring the rifle out to the Peaceshack now and take some proper photos and then post'em.

It's almost ten P.M. here now and the temperature is ninety two. We are beat.

    Enjoy the photos,

    Lancebear

You are going to find that 05 barrel to be very accurate, I would wager.

    Hey Duke and guys,

Just took some maybe better photos.....

    LB

Don't mind the knees, had to do that to get a good shot of the parked BP, also was going from memory on the serial. Our rifles are 1759 numbers apart. Still pretty close.

For Pete, that little red rock in one of the photos is a memento that wound up in my pocket while visiting Montezuma (sic) Well in Arizona during a 2003 trip. Unfinished point. Just layin' on side the path. Neat place.

    Regards Big,

    Hey Jim,

If we ever get a break with the heat I'll shoot that rifle and let you know.

As good as Bigduke6 shot his, my rifle has a better bore. Just hope I can match his marksmanship.

Are you gettin' the life blasted out'a you by the heat like here? Might go to the local range tomorrow and shoot the .22 at twenty five yards with little bitty targets. That was fun last time.

Semper Loco! And a happy fourth to you!

Straight handled bolt as well... I think I would find a swept handle bolt body and recheck headspace before shooting? Nice WWII web sling.

Hi Lancebear, at first you made nice pics of your rifle. I want to buy a Springfield if they are payable out here. Wich one do you think is the best of these rifles , the A1 or A4 or so ? And wich of the makers is the best one ( like Winchester for the M 1917 ) Excuse my somewhat stupid questions but i am complete new on these rifles. Thank you for your efforts. And just for fun, is the " Tiger Balm " on one of your pics a secret stuff for restoring ? ;-)

    Best regards,

    Gunner

    Cool Heat

Very hot and humid here. I have been building a 50' x 12' greenhouse. I wore nothing but shorts due to the heat and humidity, and I look like a boiled crawdad. Once the roof went on, the inside temperature skyrocketed. I am building the trays now, and I am finally getted accustomed to the heat. I drank 5 gallons of water in a single day in 8 hours. I was still drinking water at midnight that night. So the answer is yes, it is hot here.

I have been so busy lately, I have done little shooting since my grandsons left. I need to hit the reloading bench, as we burned up a serious amount of ammo (that is what it is for, after all). Letting two young boys have access to a 22 auto pistol led to two bricks of 22's vaporizing. One of these boys only gets to fire real weapons when he is here visiting. ROTC and early age training are really paying off with both of them as far as handling and respect of weapons. Using plastic bottles of water, I tried to show them what happens if a round is accidentally fired into a living person. Seeing a 2 liter plastic jug they can't rupture just explode when hit made an impression. The jugs retain the drastic deformation due to the heat and forces generated. I point to the jug and tell them that is what their leg or head will look like if they are careless. They really got into the exploding jugs thing. We filled up a couple of 55 gal trash cans with busted jugs.

Nice shooter you have there. You need to get up to NC and we will head down to the creek and pop some cottonmouths. They have been in hiding due to the heat lately, but they are still there.
