I think it's a bargain?
On the way back from the dentist this afternoon, I decided to have a look in a large pawn shop nearby for anything of interest. The first thing I saw was a No.1 Mk.III*, all matching serial numbers (receiver, barrel, bolt, nose and mag.). It is dated 1918 and at $125 it just had to come home with me.
A couple of anomalies though; the date, as mentioned, is 1918, although the '8' is stamped over the top of a '7'. Also the butt is quite obviously a later replacement, I suspect possibly a No.4 with a brass butt plate. It has the markings 'S' (for Small) and on the underside a 'D' (or possibly a 'P') and on the top side a 'B'.
Apart from these, I cannot see any other problems with it, and for the price I think I was lucky I went to the dentist today. (It was only for a routine cleaning, BTW).
