Are you sure.........
Look behind the officer and you will see a complete 1903 Springfield mounted on top of that naval gun.
I must have been used to sink canoes.
Jim

It is "mounted" there above the gun ?? Or is it just perched there and not part of the guns function ??
Neat Pic anyway,
Emri

I fought a Marine boxer who weighed 150 lbs, and I weighed 226. He whipped me so fast it was almost a joke. He was still hitting me while I was falling (no joke). I felt like I had stepped into a big fan. It was not a sanctioned fight (no gloves), as I was his squad leader and I was "teaching him a lesson". I still remember his name. It was Quinones. Pvt. Quinones, if you are reading this, you hold the record for putting this old Marine on the ground.
By the way, as Pvt. Quinones was dancing around with his hands in the air in front of the Platoon, I hit him in the back of the head with a mop bucket swung over my head and knocked him unconscious.
He was still unconscious when we arrived at Sickbay. He had to get stitches in his head. It's called Jungle Rules Boxing and it ain't over 'til it's over.
.
Pvt. Quinones was a very hard working Marine after that episode. Point is, Navy and Marine boxing matches can be very interesting to watch, and there is never a shortage of people wanting to join in. Just don't take your eyes off your opponent until they are dragging him out of the ring!
Semper Fi, Pvt. Quinones!
