I would take the nice black one. The reasons : better to handle with the pistol grip, the look is more dangerous and on short distances it is good against soft body armour. The carbine is good enough for home defense but is not so good to handle. The bullet is a bit weak but is not so dangerous for producing ricochet`s. This is only MY opinion.

I would like to have both of those rifles, but unless you are chasing someone down a 50 yard driveway neither for home defense. Too tight of quarters inside for me. Maybe an Enforcer.
My choice is a pistol, Sig 220. My wife who is not as familiar with pistols has 60LS .357MAG/.38+P Lady Smith revolver. If I were to use a long gun, it would be my Benelli M-4. Hard to miss with it, and won't go into the neighbors house.
Again, that's just me.

.38 Spec. +P with the Federal Hydro shock are an extreme good choice. I`ve no problems with the neighbours. The walls here out of bricks and concrete, so you have the problems with ricochete. It`s better to use softpoint rifle ammo ore flatnose and hollow point pistol/revolver ammo. And as i know from middle east, the one who is looking in the dangerous end of an .45 ACP has usually no more interest to do wrong things.

I love my carbines and AR's but they stay in the safe. A loaded 12 ga and .45 are my boogeyman go to's.

Me too. Eyes aren't what they used to be. IMHO you can't beat a Browning Shotgun for getting that "reach out and touch'em" feeling...

Home defense
My choice is a .357 Sig with JHP ammo on the night stand with a Mossberg 12 ga. cruiser next to it. Hard to beat a handgun for close quarters and the .357 Sig has more energy than the .45 ACP I believe. Sadly we may not have much warning so having a "grab quick and fire" handgun could save your life. Assuming a break and enter in progress, the 12 ga with 00 Buck will end hostilities pronto. Remember that even the lowly .22 beats a stick or nothing.
Bad times are upon us gentlemen.
Alas...

Everyone has their own favorite handgun. I carried a 45 in Viet Nam, and am very comfortable and confident using one. I saw what it can do. Not the same experience with a 357 sig, paper only. I feel I can get my 45's back on line of sight for the second shot quicker then my two 357 sig's. Which I think is important. Again, personal preference. I could care less about the difference in ammo cost. To me that is not a factor in home defense.
Charts on both from Handguns magazine.
