Can't imagine it is given the Chinese(?) characters and the "7.62".
It's probably 7.62x39 or 7.62x54R.

It's Chinese 7.62x39. Hope you didn't pay a .303 price for it.

I didnt buy it, he wants $125 for the tin. Not even sure how many rounds are in the tin, anyone know? The tin is 6" wide, 4" tall and 14" long

That would seem to be a good price. I have tins of Chinese 7.62x39 that, IIRC, are the same size and they have 700 or 750 rounds each in 20 round paper-wrapped packages.

The round contains a mild steel penetrator.

1. That might be lead-cored, not all PRC BALL ammo has a steel core.
2. It is a mild steel core to save lead, NOT a penetrator.

Is this the same stuff? I started looking at auctions on gunbroker to see if I could find any similar cans. I have also received some emails telling me that it is mosin ammo 7.62x54. I emailed the seller and asked for the tin dimensions. I have a couple of mosins but nothing to shoot the 7.62x39. Is that auction price the norm, or is it to high
Thanks

Here are the contents. The markings seem the same.
