New purchase + possible fake?
Was at the Birmingham International yesterday, and picked up the following 1907 bayonets, one hooked quillion (1910 EFD) marked 4 MAN (Manchester Regiment) and a Remington made in 1915, bought the two to get the best deal.
Also picked up a 1914 (EFD) complete with original scabbard and marked to INF (inniskilling fusiliers)
The Next was another hooked quillion, but it was suspect that it was dated 1916 and may of had the oil hole welded and and the hooked quillion added so the dealer let it go for a reasonable price.
I had a good look and in the light you would think it was 1916 but on a close inspection it was 1913, as for the oil hole there has been some metal removed around the area, but on the blade someone has tried to fill some pitting and i would suspect this may of caused some damage on the pommel maybe this was the reason?
I took a gamble on it because i wanted the scabbard also, to me if it had of been plugged or welded it would stand out more as the surface had not been polished to hide anything, even under the scrutiny of my nephew,s microscope when i got home the date was 1913 but a slight pitting before the 3 give the illusion of a 6.
Even with this i will take it to work and do some none destructive tests when the crack man is onboard next.
I have to take my hat off to the dealer for being so honest, not many like that when you have a wad of cash in your hand. If it is a forgery then its still going in my collection as it will end up the most talked about and handled bayonet in the collection.

Below 1910 EFD marked to the 4 MAN

Next 1914 EFD marked to the INF

The Remington 1915

1913 Sanderson (suspected fake)

I'm with Smithy, I don't see anything to worry about. I think they're correct and you got a good buy.

Decided to clean up the pommel, to match the rest, come up excellent, plus the file marks which were left after a previous owner had put some weld on the pitting. This doesn,t show in the pic but looks a lot better than it did.
