Which Bolt Do I Keep?
I have two complete type 2 bolts -a nice condition flat Inland and an average condition flat Winchester (I have not taken them apart). I have to give one to a buddy this week and keep one. The choice is mine. I am hoping to try and trade for a Rockola flat bolt in the future. Which bolt do you think has the greater trading potential? Thanks for any help.

They are both worth about the same, but the Winchester bolt probably is slightly more valuable for the fact they made fewer and have name recognition.
Personally, I would keep the one in the best condition since a vast majority of carbines are total mixmasters. No sense making a carbine correct. I would be more concerned with accuracy and appearance.

I would keep the one that headspaces "better" on your carbine. If they both headspace appropriately, keep the Winchester...
Its a sad day when your best bud takes your last Winchester bolt....

Tired Retired,
Good advice.
But morfred doesn't mention if he is putting it into a gun he currently has or just keeping it for trade bait later towards the Rock-Ola bolt he wants.
Since morfred says he hasn't taken them apart, he might not have a bolt tool. Which probably means he doesn't have headspace gauges either.
Though he hasn't taken them apart, he can at least see what type firing pin they have.
Even if someone has only one gun, I feel a bolt tool is a must have. If anyone does much shooting, they will eventually need to replace the extractor.

I am not necessarily going to keep it. I am hoping to trade for a Rockola flat bolt somewhere down the line. That's why I am trying to figure which one is more likely to get me a trade. I do have a field gauge but again, I am looking for future "trade bait".

Being they're both refinished, and you're only looking for 'trade bait' I'd keep the Winchester bolt.
hammonje is correct - Even though it's refinished, it'll have more appeal for trade than a very common Inland bolt in the same relative state.

Thanks for the help. I was stuck on the idea that there were way more Inlands that may have a Rockola bolt but I guess the value of the Winchester wins out.
