100 years old!

It just dawned on me that the MODEL 1911 was submitted for testing in 1910 (and I believe patented that same year), and was adopted in 1911. That means this venerable design is 100 years old and going strong! In my opinion, it is still the finest offensive/defensive handgun in the world. Not too many military weapons still in service 100 years later (M2 50 cal is a close second!)

It's THE classic handgun design and nothing comes close, or ever will in my opinion.

If I had no other gun, I would keep my 191A1.

I agree, but the famous Luger is ........no no, dont want to get in deep Troubles!! I have an Springfield 1911 and i love it. Great gun!!!

OK, the luger comes in as a very close second! They are a supreme classic too.
(If I could only afford a decent Luger...)

I had to settle on a matching P-38 to represent Germany.

Fine collection! I dont have an German WWII pistol, the really good P08s´s are too expensive and the P38 isnt my favorite. But i have my hands on an P08 with all numbers matching. Hope the guy will sell it to me for that price we made.

When I was about 19, I worked with an old guy who was an infantryman in France before, during, and after the Bulge. He had been a Sgt. and his platoon did a reconnaissance on a French Chateau that had be a German headquarters. The General Staff had left just before the Americans arrived and even left dinner on the table. He claimed a walnut presentation boxed Luger Artillery model with a beautiful stock and accessories in the presentation case.

He showed it too me at work (we worked in a two man employment office and he was the boss). It was awesome. It had an engraved presentation plate to Field Marshal Von "someone or other - I don't remember". He kept it hidden because it violated BATF rules about short barreled rifles, etc. in 1971. I wish I had that one!

this were like winning the jackpot! For such an model with engraved name of an Feldmarschall ( we should find out who he was because in that region werent much of them) you will get without any problem more than $ 8000
over here and with an very important name much more.

Here's my luger [1936 S42] i got to go with my 1911A1 [1943 usgi], i like them both, but if i had to use one of them in an emer. i would use the 1911A1.
