Well bought L42A1
I watched the auction below and think that someone, perhaps a forum member, got a very good deal.
sniper L42A1 : Curios and Relics at GunBroker.com
I have one already but was tempted. Buttstock scope markings were a bit interesting. I was going to compare it to pictures of mine, but my old computer with all of my pictures crashed.
Any thoughts on the rifle?

No joke. I would need a divorce lawyer if I spent that much on a rifle.

UK
price would be around GBP £4000 thats US$6000.
If I'd seen it I'd have bought it at that price and got some kind US dealer to export it for me, with paperwork, shipping and tax It would have landed UK at around GBP £3000
Still 25% cheaper than to buy in the UK.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Alan,
What would you call a reasonable price for just the rifle? no chest or scope etc.

I really dont have a clue (at £4k - £6k they are a tad outside my spending allowance)
Whilst I know logic doesnt work with Enfields (and many of the folks on the forum) if we work backwards :
Complete L42, box and CES all matching = £5000
Non matching £4,000
Take off the scope and bracket £1500 +
Complete CES £1000 +
Box £200
Probably leaves about £1,000 for the rifle.
If I had it would I spend £4-£5k on an L42 complete - YES.
Would I spend £1000 on a 'bare' L42 - NO (I'd rather buy an Enforcer, a far better investment and far fewer available)

I paid £6000 for this one 10 months ago. Just needed a lens brush and a manual.
