Maybe it was to hide somthing.

Maybe it was modified for a tall person. Cheap way to extend the stock.

Maybe means guessing. Never seen one before.

    Sure looks like someones stash.
Why go to all that work for a place for extra parts? When a pouch would do.

I have no knowledge of the recoil checks they put in stocks. Could this be for one of those. I have heard of them being put in mosins and mausers, but why, if that is what this cut out was for, a carbine. Just posting an idea.

I just thought it looked like a factory or professional job. has a metal tube inside.
Would not be waterproof.. Just strange...
Or maybe to smuggle drugs from a drug raid?

I know, its Patty Hearst's M-1 carbine from her days with the Symboinese Liberation Army - that is where they hid the drugs during the bank robbery...

Well, it would make the perfect sales pitch on UPay.....

Very strange. It's my feeling that it has been like that for a very long time, and is a professional job such as you would expect from an arsenal or depot, if not the stock manufacturer. The thing that gets me is the metal fitting at the bottom - if it were done to accomodate a cleaning kit or some other accessory, perhaps for a T3, I can't see the purpose of the fitting. Then, you are faced with the fact that the plug, which appears to be the original wood, has remained with the stock for probably decades.
