A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. It's a Turkishicon M1874 sword bayonet, used with the Peabody-Martini rifle. They were made in the USAicon, by the Providence Tool Co. of Providence RI. This example was converted into a sidearm, by removing the press catch and replacing the rotted leather grips with wooden ones. Sidearm conversions of these are fairly common. The one I have is somewhat more tastefully done. This one is pictured in later revisions of Dennis Ottobre's book, Observations on Turkish Bayonets.

You mean that some poor sot, didn't get the deal of a lifetime on a hooked quillon P1907?

Unfortunately, not. The photo angle makes the bayonet look much shorter than it really is. It's actually a little larger than a Frenchicon M1866 Chassepot bayonet. Notice the leaf spring slot on the hilt photo, how stout the quillion is, and that it has a ball finial. The P1907 had a coil spring press stud, the quillion was fairly thin (like the Japaneseicon Type 30, from which it was copied), and had no ball finial.
